清乾隆《吴江县志》卷4《镇市村》：“平望镇，在二十四都，去县治东南四十七里（东汉时以乡称）。宋元间两岸邸肆间列，以便行旅。明初居民千万家，百货贸易如小邑然。自弘治迄今，居民日增，货物益备……俗以小枫桥称之。分县后惟在运河之东与南者仍隶吴江，盖三之一云。”
嘉庆《清一统志》卷78《苏州府二·关隘》：“平望巡司，在震泽县东南四十五里平望镇。府志：平望与浙江乌程分界。元置巡司，至今因之。”今江苏吴江市平望镇。",
