嘉庆《清一统志》卷74《江宁府二·关隘》：“水阳镇，在高淳县西南三十里，临水阳河，接安徽宣城县界。”
按《元丰九域志》卷6宣州宣城县有水阳镇，则镇始成于北宋熙宁、元丰年间。清清康熙《高淳县志》卷2《市镇》、清尹继善等修、黄之隽纂：乾隆《江南通志》卷25《关津》皆列，则沿袭至清。
据1984年《安徽省地图册》，在今安徽宣城县北水阳镇。",
