嘉庆《清一统志》卷74《江宁府二·关隘》列有葛城镇。
按清尹继善等修、黄之隽纂：乾隆《江南通志》卷25《关津》列为东、西葛城，“西葛城镇，县西北四十五里，接滁州界。”清嘉庆《江宁府志》江浦县图亦列为东、西二葛城镇，光绪《江苏全省舆图》称东、西葛镇，今宜取西葛城镇。
明万历《江浦县志》卷4《镇店》：“西葛城镇，治北四十五里。”则镇形成于明万历末以前。
据1978年《江苏省地图集》（内部发行），在今江苏江浦县西北西葛。",
