嘉庆《清一统志》卷·江宁府》：“东流市，在县东北四十里。”
按《景定建康志》卷16《镇市》：东流市，“在上元县宣义乡，去城四十里。”元《至正金陵新志》卷4上《镇市》、明万历《上元县志》卷4《建置志》、清康熙《上元县志》卷7《镇市》、道光《上元县志》卷3《市》同，则自南宋景定以前成市后，历元、明、清相继承袭。
