嘉庆《清一统志》卷74《江宁府二·关隘》：“石步镇，在上元县东北四十里。”清嘉庆《江宁府志》卷12《建置志》：石步镇“在上元东北长宁乡，今栖霞东村。”
按《元丰九域志》卷6江宁府上元县：“淳化、土桥、湖熟、石步四镇”，则石步镇始置北宋熙宁、元丰年间。《至正金陵新志》卷4《镇市》：“石步镇，在上元县东北四十里。”明万历《应天府志》卷16《建置志》：石步镇，“在上元县长宁乡。”万历《上元县志》卷4《建置志》、清康熙《上元县志》卷7《镇市》同。清尹继善等修、黄之隽纂：乾隆《江南通志》卷25《关津》：石步镇，“上元县东北四十里。”道光《上元县志》卷3《镇》：“石步镇，在县东北四十里长宁乡。”则自北宋建镇后，历元、明、清沿袭不改。
又嘉庆《清一统志》卷74《江宁府二·关隘》：“罗落桥，在上元县东北”，引《景定建康志》石步桥，“即古罗落桥”，引《方舆纪要》：“在府东北四十里，地名石安镇，亦名石步桥。”又云：石步镇“即古罗落桥镇”。
据1978年《江苏省地图集》（内部发行），即今江苏南京市东北石埠桥。",
